Surgery Unified has formally launched an expanded Education leadership team under the direction of Dr. Chris DuCoin, Chief Academic Officer. This marks an important step in how the company structures, scales, and strengthens surgical education across its platforms, including SurgeOn.

This group of subspecialty Directors and education leads will guide content strategy, standardize production, and increase the pace and consistency of educational delivery. The focus remains clear: practical, continuous, peer-to-peer learning that helps surgeons improve in real time.

Dr. Mark Soliman, CEO of Surgery Unified, shared in welcoming the team:

“This team is the result of a lot of work and belief in what we’re building. Seeing it come together with surgeons of this caliber is one of the highlights of this journey.”

Dr. DuCoin described the model as intentionally academic in structure:

“Much like division chiefs within an academic department, each Director will lead their subspecialty, building on established strengths while expanding consistency and reach across the platform and our growing global community.”

Education leadership appointments

  • Director of Bariatric Surgery – Dr. Faiz Shariff
  • Director of Colorectal Surgery – Dr. Cesar Santiago
  • Director of Hernia Surgery – Dr. Salvator Docimo Jr.
  • Director of Gynecological Surgery – Dr. Olga Muldoon
  • Director of Foregut Surgery – Dr. Tarek Hassab
  • Director of U.S. Education – Dr. Matt Bobel
  • Education Fellow – Kerry Jiang
  • Education Lead for Residents and Medical Students – Abhirami Babu

This structure builds on strong educational foundations already in place, including Bariatric programming through RBC, Colorectal Surgery content via CRS Virtual Education, and Hernia-focused Global Rounds sessions. With defined Directors in place, Surgery Unified can align quality standards, coordinate release cadence, and create a more consistent experience across specialties.

The Education leadership team will work closely with the broader Surgery Unified leadership group and will continue expanding to include additional subspecialties and global Directors as the community grows.

This is more than an organizational update. It reflects a deliberate investment in accountability, academic rigor, and long-term educational strategy. Clear leadership within each specialty allows Surgery Unified to move faster, reduce fragmentation, and support surgeons at every stage of training and practice.

More updates will follow as new educational initiatives and features are introduced under this structure.
