There are more than one million practicing surgeons worldwide, but professional collaboration faces numerous barriers. Disparities in program funding and medical technology infrastructure, as well as varying licensing requirements and practice regulations, have traditionally presented challenges to expanding access to the latest surgical advancements.

This is the problem SurgeOn hopes to address.

Since its debut in 2021, the SurgeOn platform has quickly grown as the authoritative educational and networking platform of the surgical community. More than 15,000 vetted surgeons use the app to participate in webinars led by industry experts and to join in open community discussions dedicated to specialty-specific best practices.

Unlike other social media or professional forum sites, SurgeOn allows for private conversations with verified experts — without restrictions on content posting on concerns about bot traffic. The one downside, however, was that the platform could only verify users with a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. These numbers are only available to surgeons in the United States.

Expanded Verification for International Users

To address this limitation, the latest version of SurgeOn enables a new manual check verification process. New users can register with a medical license or certificate, hospital badge, or other health care provider documentation alongside a photo ID. Documents are human-reviewed within three business days.

Currently, SurgeOn is available to licensed physicians, advanced practice providers, and healthcare students in the United States, Canada, UK, and EU.

“Verification ensures our community of surgeons maintains the highest standards of professionalism and trust, creating a secure space for collaboration and discussion, advancing the field of surgery worldwide.” – Dr. Mark Soliman, Surgery Unified CEO

Verified users can post in community discussions, message colleagues, and attend surgical education events.

What’s Next for SurgeOn

Dr. Mark Soliman, a co-founder of the platform, has his eyes on expanding platform access to new regions later in 2025 — including South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.

“Our goal is to make SurgeOn accessible to physicians, students, and advanced practice providers worldwide while maintaining the unmatched security and privacy features that set our platform apart,” says Dr. Soliman.

This broader reach is intended to build a sense of community across all levels of experience in the surgical field and to create a more dynamic environment for collaboration.
